Update 1.26.7: Strategic Habitat Management & Herd Fitness

Update 1.26.7 enhances the Hunting Map UI, giving players clearer insights into herd fitness and hunting impact for smarter, more strategic decisions.

With Update 1.26.7, we're introducing an enhanced Hunting Map UI that gives you clearer insights into animal herds, their habitats, and the impact of hunting activities. Many of you requested better visibility into animal populations, and this update delivers valuable data for strategic decision-making.

Our goal is to make herd management more accessible and intuitive. The updated Hunting Map allows you to track herd fitness over time, make informed hunting decisions, and manage populations more effectively to ensure sustainability.

What’s new?

Previously, tracking herd fitness required manual note-taking, making it difficult to monitor changes. Now, after each in-game year (now displayed on the Hunting Map), you’ll clearly see herd fitness levels and understand how your hunting choices impact populations. This deeper insight helps you refine your strategy and manage herds more effectively, making hunting both more engaging and rewarding.

Breaking Down the Info

When you harvest an animal, the effects go beyond just that individual. After a full in-game year, the impact of your actions will be felt by all groups of that species in the same habitat. To see how your hunting has influenced the species, open the Hunting Map, locate the habitat where you hunted, and hover over the group icons of that species. You’ll see detailed information about the habitat's current status.

Fitness Potential Indicators

Each species within a habitat now displays an icon to show its current fitness level:

  • No ribbon: 0-19.99% (Very low fitness)

  • One blue ribbon: 20-39.99% (Low fitness)

  • Two purple ribbons: 40-59.99% (Moderate fitness)

  • Three golden ribbons 60-79.99% (High fitness)

  • Special medal with laurel wreath: 80-100% (Very high fitness)

Fitness Potential

  • A: Habitat Name
Every species lives in specific habitats. Harvesting in one habitat will not affect other habitats.

  • B: Habitat Quality
Not all habitats are equal when it comes to supporting animals. There are three types:

  • Primary habitats: The best environments for animals to reach their full potential.

  • Secondary habitats: Suitable, but less optimal, environments where animals may have lower fitness potential.

  • Private habitats: Special areas that offer better genetics than Primary habitats. However, you must gain access to these areas before hunting.

  • C: Fitness Potential Range
Each habitat has a range of fitness potential for animals. This range is displayed as a graph.

    • If a column is empty, animals in that habitat can’t achieve that fitness level.

    • If a column is grey, animals can potentially reach the fitness level.

    • The taller the column, the more animals in that habitat will reach that fitness level.

  • D: Fitness Potential Change
This section shows how fitness levels in a habitat have changed over time:

    • Green highlight – Fitness levels have improved.

    • Red highlight – Fitness levels have declined.

    • White highlight – No significant change.

Strategic Hunting & Herd Management

With greater visibility into herd dynamics, you'll have new ways to experiment with different strategies, making the game even more enjoyable. There's no need to worry - this feature is designed to help you, not complicate things. Herd management still works the same as before, this update simply provides more insight. It's also designed to be easily understandable for all players, so once you're in the game, we're confident you'll quickly grasp everything and feel even more confident in your hunts.

Happy Hunting!
