Way of the Hunter 2 - The Road Ahead

With launch just around the corner, here's the updated roadmap, an honest look at what made it into Version 1.0, and what's still ahead. Thank you for hunting with us every step of the way.

Way of the Hunter 2 officially launches on all platforms tomorrow. Reaching this point would not have been possible without you, the players who joined us throughout Early Access, hunted with us, tested new features, reported bugs, shared feedback, and told us what you wanted to see next.

Early Access was built around exactly that idea: you gave us feedback, and we used it to shape the game.

Over the course of five major content updates, we introduced new features, adjusted existing mechanics, improved systems, and experimented with ideas that helped us understand what Way of the Hunter 2 should become.

Making games is a complex process. Sometimes an idea plays out differently than expected. Sometimes something takes longer than planned. And sometimes we simply adapt the plan to make it work.

That is why we wanted Early Access to give us room to experiment, adapt, and react to feedback, and we'll keep learning from and reacting to your feedback well beyond launch.

What's coming?

Here's a preview of some of the biggest things we're currently working on.

More depth to hunting

We're continuing to expand animal behaviour and hunting experience.

This includes further improvements to turkey hunting and behaviour, new trophy variations including non-typical, superior and mythical trophies, and a new hunt rating system that will give you another way to measure your hunts.

Animal senses will also become more dynamic, with weather influencing how animals perceive their surroundings.

More ways to customize your gear

We're adding new equipment and ways to tune your hunting setup.

Among the planned additions are muzzle brakes, a bow silencer and stabilizer, as well as improvements to controller feedback including better vibrations, haptics and adaptive trigger support.

And our gear-focused DLCs will bring even more equipment from real-world partners into the game.

More ways to play

One of the free updates will introduce a female character, giving you another option for your hunter.

We're also working on advanced dog training, giving you more ways to develop and work with your hunting companion.

More reasons to hunt

We're expanding the progression and reward systems with new trophy types and the new hunt rating system.

The goal is to give experienced hunters more things to work towards while making every hunt feel a little more meaningful.

New gear and new places to hunt

Free updates aren't the only thing we're working on.

Our paid DLC plans include new gear from our current and future partners, as well as completely new hunting regions.

Later on, we're planning additional weapons, gear, another new map – a new region to explore, and a dog-focused DLC.

As all of these get closer to release, we'll share more details about exactly what they contain.

Multiplayer

Multiplayer will continue to evolve alongside the rest of the game.

The first planned multiplayer improvements include text chat and password-protected sessions.

Further down the road, we're working toward larger multiplayer improvements, including the necessary optimizations for 3+ player support, Persistent Worlds and co-op expeditions.

These are among the more technically demanding features on our roadmap, so they need some extra development time. Rather than rushing them out, we want to make sure they are properly tested and ready before they become part of the game.

Still on the way after 1.0

Not everything we set out to deliver during Early Access made it into the game at launch of 1.0. We know a few of these have been asked about a lot, so we want to be upfront rather than let it go unaddressed.

Accessibility options are still in progress and won't be fully part of 1.0. One addition that is available at launch is a high-contrast setting for animal signs and tracks, for players who find them difficult to spot. We’ll keep expanding these options as development continues.

New animals - we've targeted 30 species by the end of Early Access. We're launching 1.0 with 28, and the remaining two will come in the upcoming updates.

Non-typical trophies, one of the most requested features, is also not ready for 1.0. We know this one has been asked about the most, and it remains a top priority on our roadmap.

There are a couple more features we mentioned during Early Access, including character customization, advanced dog training, animal senses influenced by weather, and some multiplayer improvements. We've been working on them, and many are already close to being finished, but they need more polishing and testing before they're ready for the game. They'll arrive in post-launch updates as soon as they're ready, and we'll share more on timing as each gets closer.

We'd rather tell you clearly where things stand than leave you guessing, and we'll keep this updated as these features approach release. For anything related to pre-orders, editions and purchase options across platforms, we'll be sharing an updated FAQ very soon. Stay tuned!

1.0 is the beginning, not the end

The full release is an important milestone, but it isn't the end of development. In the weeks after launch, we'll focus on polishing the game across all platforms, fixing bugs, improving stability, and fine-tuning existing features. We'll also keep reading your reviews and feedback to see where the game can grow next.

Our post-launch plans include regular free updates, new paid DLCs, new equipment from our partners, and entirely new hunting locations. Some of the more ambitious features, especially new multiplayer modes, will take longer and are planned for 2027 and beyond. Plans can evolve, and we'll keep you in the loop.

Way of the Hunter 2 has changed considerably since the first day of Early Access, and a huge part of that change came from you. Now we're taking the next step: it launches tomorrow, September 29, 2026, on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, and we're looking forward to continuing the journey with you.

Thank you for being part of it.
